The Historic Area, Military Museum, and the Gift Shop are open at seven days a week. Guided tours are available during the summer tourist season. Visitors are free to explore the concrete batteries and to check out the progress on the reconstruction of the Battery Pratt gun carriage. The gun tube and breech is already there for your inspection. This is a-one-of-a kind project in the nation, maybe the whole world!!! Watch for announcements of special events.

The Museum features interactive exhibits that combine history with cutting-edge technology. Visitors of all ages will experience what it is like to pilot a tugboat, participate in a Coast Guard rescue on the Columbia River Bar, and live in Astoria during the height of the salmon fishing. Huge windows make the Columbia River a living backdrop for classic fishing vessels and Coast Guard rescue craft.  Experience first hand how the Bar Pilots work the dangerous wind and waves during a fierce winter storm in the award winning orientation film The Great River of the West.  Walk on board the bridge of a WWII era US Navy Destroyer, see the world class collection of maritime artifacts, and then walk out to the dock to explore the Lightship Columbia, a floating lighthouse.

Boiler Bay State Scenic Viewpoint-Boiler Bay is a great place to watch wild surf action on the rocky spurs. This splendid panoramic viewpoint presents a good opportunity to see migrating and resident gray whales. Take your binoculars -- this is one of the best sites in Oregon to see ocean-going birds (like shearwaters, jaegers, albatrosses, grebes, pelicans, loons, oystercatchers and murrelets). In 1910, an explosion sank the J. Marhoffer, and you can see the ship's boiler at low-tide. A short, rough trail takes you to some of Oregon's richest tide pools.

Interpretive Center (9-5)
The 93 foot tower, Oregon's tallest, is located on a narrow point of land jutting due west into the Pacific Ocean north of Newport, at Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area.  Winds and rain have buffeted this lighthouse since its beginning in 1872.  It took approximately one year, and over 370,000 bricks to construct Oregon's tallest lighthouse. 		 
    (Continue on Hwy 101 into Newport.  Go through town.  Turn left on SW Alder St, a few blocks before the bridge.  The road will end at SW 11th.  Follow it right, then will go left on Fall Rd.  Turn left on Bay Blvd.)

Oregon Undersea Gardens-Descend... into the magic submarine world of the Oregon – home of the largest collection of local marine life to be found anywhere! You’ll come face to face with the excitement, the wonder, the magic and mystery of the underwater world.
Ripley’s Believe It or Not-You can experience all the wonder of the world’s most bizarre sights right here in Newport, from the “live” stageshow to shrunken heads to the magic harp. And be careful not to step over the edge of the universe in the deep-space hall of mirrors.
The Wax Works-Hundreds of sculptures, each elaborately molded and detailed, delight visitors from around the world. Where else can you see Hollywood legends and sci-fi creatures just by turning around?		  
    (Go back to Hwy 101.  Just before crossing the bridge, look for the sign to Yaquina Bay Lighthouse to your right.)

Yaquina Bay Lighthouse (11-5) Donation
Built in 1871 and decommissioned in 1874.  Inside the lighthouse, two flights of stairs lead to the watch room.  The lantern room is not open to the public.  The basement is open to the public and features a video about the lighthouse.  Our Interpretive Store offers many new and exciting educational items about lighthouses and the surrounding coastal habitat.		  
    (Go back to Hwy 101 and turn right/south.  Cross the Yaquina Bay Bridge watching for a sign to the Oregon Coast Aquarium.  It will turn left on 32nd.  At the T turn left on SE Ferry Slip Rd.)
