at the Market
1410 Post Alley
Market Ghost Tour - (Wed-Sun 5 and
7, 9 Sat & Sun) $19/$17 Sr or $62 for 4 people
Explore the Pike Place Market on this 75 minute exterior walking tour
through the district. In the Market stands the city's first mortuary,
part of an old graveyard, and a brothel that still has a red glow cast
on its side. Seattle went through major topographical change spanning 30
years after the Great fire in 1889. More earth was moved in the Seattle
regrade than in the digging of the Panama Canal. Some believe that it is
the movement of earth, roads, structures, and graves that create
Seattle's many ghost stories. This tour provides an alternate look at
Seattle's unique history. The Pike Place Market has been voted the
most haunted location in the northwest. Learn why by joining us on this
night time tour. The skeptic and the believer can enjoy this
historical tour. While we have been involved in paranormal
research in the area, this tour is not a ghost hunt. We
root our stories in history and the tradition of storytelling. The northwest's
true history can be more frightening than any ghost story. At
5:00, the Market is open and we travel through the Arcades. At 7:00 &
9:00 the Market is closed and the tour is an exterior tour. We take
advantage of the nooks and crannies and travel Post Alley to share the
stories.
The Chapel Tour/Investigate-
(Thurs-Sat 7:30 p.m.) $22.00When the Ghost Tour first started the
restaurant, Avenue One, was open at 1921 First Avenue in the Butterworth
Mortuary. One afternoon customers sitting at the bar watched in horror
as bottles of wine flew on their volition across the room. The space had
housed Cafe Sophie as well. Stories about the old Sophie are legendary.
Several other restaurants all opened at 1921 and struggled to stay
alive. The space has been empty since 2007, fueling rumors that it is
one of the most haunted locations in the NW. Now a new restaurant is
under construction. The ornate balconies are being restored, the
original mouldings repaired. We have been unable to go inside for years,
but now we do on this special tour thanks to Kells Irish Pub. Kells is
an incredible bar with great beer, music and soccer on the big screen.
It is also in the lower two levels of the Mortuary. Kells has been the
subject of numerous TV shows including Ghost Adventures and My Ghost
Story. Want to spend some time in Seattle's famous haunted mortuary? See
the Chapel in its raw form? This is the tour for you. We will be giving
a modified Market Ghost Tour and spending time inside the Chapel. You
will participate in an EVP session once inside the building. The
unedited session will be posted on our facebook page one week after the
tour, if there are no problems with the audio file. You are welcome to
bring your audio recorders with you on this tour. |

Rothschild settled in Port Townsend in 1858 and began a business under
the name of "Kentucky Store." It was soon changed to the Rothschild and
Co. Mercantile, selling varied merchandise. In 1868 Mr. Rothschild had
this family home built where it now stands. His widow Dorette remained
in the house until her death in 1918, allowing only minimal changes,
such as the installation of a bathroom. Her daughter lived there for
nearly 78 years, until her death in 1954. |
