Port Gamble
-is one of the only surviving examples of a nineteenth century company town. It traces its roots back to the arrival of San Francisco timber entrepreneurs Josiah Keller, William Talbot, Andrew Pope, and Charles Foster in 1853, just months after Washington gained territorial status. Their succession of mills remained in operation until 1995, and many of the New England-style homes and stores that once served Port Gamble workers are now being restored by Olympic Property Group for residential and commercial uses bridging the nineteenth and twenty-first centuries.

Stroll through actual furnished settings and experience the dynamic story of Port Gamble. Overlooks Admiralty Inlet with the Cascades in the background. Completed in 1904, thirty-three different families called this place home during the days of the fort. The building has been restored and furnished in keeping with the late Victorian period (1890 - 1910), providing a glimpse into the life of an officer and his family in the first decade of this century.
 
    Coast Artillery Museum (11-4) $2
The museum comes alive with film footage of the big guns being fired at Fort Worden, along with large scale models of a 12-inch mortar and a disappearing carriage gun, and many other fascinating depictions of life at the fort.

Rothshield House Museum (11-4) $4
D.C.H. Rothschild settled in Port Townsend in 1858 and began a business under the name of "Kentucky Store."  It was soon changed to the Rothschild and Co. Mercantile, selling varied merchandise.  In 1868 Mr. Rothschild had this family home built where it now stands.  His widow Dorette remained in the house until her death in 1918, allowing only minimal changes, such as the installation of a bathroom. Her daughter lived there for nearly 78 years, until her death in 1954.
 
    (Go down Taylor to Jefferson.  Turn left.  Turn right on Quincy back to the waterfront.)

Admiralty Head Lighthouse (11-5) Donation
Built in 1861 and rebuilt in 1903, the lighthouse guided tall ships toward the Whidbey Island shore where they could fill their sails with wind. It was the last brick lighthouse designed by renowned German architect Carl Leick - its walls 18 inches thick to withstand the earthquakes that shake western Washington.  Admiralty Head's Fresnel lens was extinguished in 1922.
 
    (Go left/north on Hwy 20.  Continue through Hwy 20 on Main St.)
